HKUST Engineering Students and Alumni Won 17 Awards at Hong Kong Techathon+ 2025

Hong Kong Techathon+ 2025

Fifteen teams comprising HKUST School of Engineering students and alumni received 17 awards at the Hong Kong Techathon+ 2025, including the top honor. The event was co-organized by Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and 13 local higher education institutions.

The competition concluded on January 19, 2025, with record participation of over 1,800 local and international I&T talents forming over 380 teams. Awards were classified into four categories: Trusted AI & Data Science, Sustainability & ESG, Digital Economy, and Smart Cities.

Top Award Winner

Team "Eleuto" won both the New Innovation Award (top honor) and the Gold Award in Sustainability & ESG (Student Group). The team comprised Aryan Agarwal (BEng Aerospace Engineering) and Shivansh Anand (BEng Computer Engineering), plus other HKUST students. Their project created a communication solution for paralyzed individuals unable to speak or type.

Merit Award (Open): Sign Language Translation AI — Dr. Liu Hao (PhD Computer Science), Aaliya Raza (BEng Decision Analytics)

Gold Award (Student): Eleuto (top honor winner)

Bronze Award (Open): Microalgae CO2 Capture — Travis Tong Ka-Hin (MSc Chemical and Energy Engineering)
